Spent too much time going between the whisky and the food pairing to notice!
Thoughts
Part of a 2021 collaboration between WhiskyBrother and JSD, alongside an 11-year-old expression that spent its final five years in an Oloroso cask. Excuse the poor-quality photo; the lighting wasn’t great, but I had to share this pairing. We were celebrating a milestone at home with juicy strawberries, freshly hand-whipped cream and some bubbly when I spotted this bottle in the whisky cabinet and took a chance. All I can say is, “Wow!” At 69.8% ABV, this whisky isn’t shy, but pairing it with the food brought balance to both. The vanilla sweetness from the bourbon cask complemented the whipped cream beautifully, while the tropical fruit notes played nicely with the fresh strawberries.
