Nose
Bright and fruit-forward, with orchard fruit and a noticeable coastal salinity.
Palate
Punchy and lively, with fresh fruit and maritime saltiness. The Oloroso-seasoned, charred American oak finish adds another layer of character.
Finish
Coastal and gently salty, with lingering fruit and oak.
Thoughts
My last bottle of Oban was the 14yo, back when it was part of Diageo’s Classic Malts series. It always came a distant second to Talisker 10yo and Lagavulin 16yo in that line-up. Pleasant enough, if a little soft. I remember a certain waxiness, although that could just be my brain making things up. I’d like to revisit it someday, especially after trying this newer release. The 10yo Coastal Orchard is bright, punchy and very fruit-forward, with a good dose of salinity on both the nose and palate. I like this one a lot, and I’ll be actively looking for other Oban releases to try.
